A BIT OF BACKGROUND

Covered Bridge was formed in 2001 to provide residential Christ-centered discipleship and aftercare for men and women who have been affected by substance abuse and addictive behavior.  We serve, to a large extent, as an extension of the ministry that exists within the prisons and jails of Vermont.  Our mission is to provide a place where men and women can build a foundation for their lives upon the principles that God has given us in the Bible.

Covered Bridge opened its first such house in St. Johnsbury in early 2004.  The vision and goal is to establish similar houses throughout the State of Vermont in order that men and women who are returning to the community will have a place where they can be supported for the first 6-12 months of transition to the community.

                                                                        PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Covered Bridge provides a place for men and women to live in a therapeutic community setting.  Each resident is responsible for developing goals during their stay and is engaged in the process of learning and applying Biblical principles for living.

Each person's stay at Covered Bridge is determined by their individual needs--there is no pre-determined length of stay.  Our goal to help our residents prepare themselves for living their life free from an addictive lifestyle.  Ideally, when a resident leaves Covered Bridge they have established themselves in the community, they have a stable income that will support them and they have found a safe place to live.  The time that it takes to accomplish these objectives will vary.  On average we see that it will typically require a stay of 6-12 months.

Our program includes the following:
